just wondering
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:44:41 PM »
Howdy,
I was just wondering if there is a place I can go to see the membership list?  I see so many familiar names & faces.  And wanted to go through the list and see what the competion is like or perhaps read some of the information on the players.   Oops, I just scrolled down to bottom of page and found it.  Never mind, just another blonde moment :-[.
Well phooey that didn't work after all.  Says I need permission to view the list.  Hmmm I guess I'm back to my origianal question.
Thanks for your time and patience :-[.

This is one that Betty will have to answer.  Not sure why members can not view the members list, but I'm just she has a good reason for it.  lol

Well I think I can answer this, to some degree. We respect members privacy, so we try to keep their information hidden. If so happen a new registered member comes in, and their sole intent is to steal members information, for spamming intents. Membership area is sometimes the easious area to hack. That is one of the main areas they try for, to hack into a system also.
Another thing that has happen lately, certain people looking to see if someone is a member, if not, they take his aka and the tries to be that person, so to get passwords, from certain forums, making forum owners think it is the person intended for the password. If I am not mistaken Sharbear had this happen to her some time back, in a game of hers.

Thank you for answering that King, nicely done.
I can't even think of anything to add to that.  :)

If I am not mistaken Sharbear had this happen to her some time back, in a game of hers.

This issue arose on IM. An individual on Yahoo IM was claiming to be a member (even had the same name on IM as what the username was on the forum).  Very possible he accessed it the way just described.  They were trying to get passwords by pretending to be this person.  If I had not already had that person on IM it might have worked.  Needless to say it was quite the headache and hassell for the person they were pretending to be.
